Sustainable Arctic
travel with Nunatak
An Arctic sailing dream
The name Nunatak comes from an Inuit word: it describes a mountain peak rising above glaciers: untouched, strong, and beautiful in its isolation. Like those hidden summits, our Arctic sailing expeditions take you to places few travelers ever reach.
A love story born at sea
Nunatak Sailing Company was born from a love story not just between two people, but between both of us and the wild Arctic seas.
We met on a sailing expedition in Northern Norway. Haakon was the captain; I was the photographer. It was one of those rare, instant connections. From the very start, we talked about our shared love for adventures, the mountains, the sea, for untamed places, and for the stories they hold.
Haakon had spent years sailing as a captain, guiding small groups through the fjords of Northern Norway. I had spent mine chasing northern lights and the beauty of cold as an outdoor photographer, forever fascinated by ice, pirates and untamed places.
Soon after we met, the dream began to take shape. What if we had our own boat? Our own company? We knew it wouldn’t be easy. But we also knew we’d never settle for anything less.

Sustainable Arctic travel with Nunatak
At Nunatak, we are rooted in tradition and guided by respect. We deeply value the cultural and historical heritage of the Arctic regions we explore, and it is shown in every part of our expeditions. From our use of a traditional wooden sailboat, to the local Norwegian food we taste, the stories we share, and the way we engage with each community we visit.
We strive to operate with intention: using local resources, partnering with regional producers and artisans, and leaving behind no unnecessary footprint, only positive connections.
Our mission is twofold
To bring genuine value to the communities we engage with.
To grow into a small fleet of sustainable vessels, allowing us to expand our expeditions to new destinations, including Greenland, Svalbard, and Iceland.
These journeys are inspired by the spirit of northern seafarers and shaped by modern values of sustainability, cultural respect, and slow, immersive travel.
