Why sustainability matters to us
At Nunatak Sailing Company, we believe that exploring the Arctic is a privilege, and with it comes great responsibility. Our mission is to share the raw beauty of the North without leaving a trace. We sail with the wind, tread lightly, and treat every landscape, fjord, and creature with deep respect.
We are committed to sustainable, low-impact travel.
The name Nunatak comes from an Inuit word: it describes a mountain peak rising above glaciers: untouched, strong, and beautiful in its isolation. Like those hidden summits, our Arctic sailing expeditions take you to places few travelers ever reach.
- Minimized engine use: we rely on wind power whenever possible
- Zero-waste policy: reduce single-use plastics and unnecessary waste
- Local, seasonal Arctic food: organic and regionally sourced.
- Wildlife safe practices: we follow strict environmental and wildlife guidelines
There is always room to grow
Sailing is already one of the most eco-friendly ways to travel, but we don’t stop there. We're always learning, adapting, and working to reduce our impact even further. Real adventure shouldn’t come at nature’s expense.
